According to Gordon persons with disabilities who begin the process of entering college face challenges that are "daunting at best and insurmountable at worst." It is for this reason that Jabez presents a campus ministries with a three-fold task:
1) Jabez Ministries offers Bible Study and Pastoral Care that addresses the spiritual needs that come from the student's difficulties and challenges which accompany living with disabilities in today's world.
2) Jabez Ministries provides unique evangelistic opportunities to students who do not attend church or have an active spiritual life because have found their experiences in the church lacking or incomplete.
3) Jabez Ministries provides an opportunity to build community by providing students with disabilities and the non-disabled by offering common service projects, mission trips and other activities that would have an impact on the community at large as well as other opportunities on a college campus to serve the unchurched or underchurched individuals with disabilities and give witness to the Gospel in a manner that is empathetic to where they are in their lives.
In order for Jabez to provide these services and have continual support this ministry needs to raise $36,200 to meet the necessary financial goal for the calendar year and depends upon the generosity of the community to keep it services going and is grateful for any help that can be provided.
It is our hope that with prayer and financial support Jabez will be able to expand its services to colleges in the Grand Rapids area so that people with disabilities can have the continual emotional and spiritual guidance he or she needs to
not only perform successfully in school and in life, but maintain a strong spiritual walk with the Lord in the process.
